In de negentiende eeuw werd de Latijnse \u2018stadsschool\u2019 een Stedelijk Gymnasium, dat in de twintigste eeuw gezelschap kreeg van een Gereformeerd (later: Christelijk) Gymnasium. Deze opstellen gaan over beide scholen, hun leerlingen en hun omgang met de klassieke oudheid en de moderne samenleving.<\/p>\n<p>Cultuurhistoricus dr. Kees Kuiken laat zien dat de Leeuwarder gymnasiasten en hun voorgangers geen saaie boekenwurmen waren maar juist voortdurend meebewogen met maatschappelijke veranderingen.
